1940 Chevrolet Windshield Installation Instructions

The windshield on a 1940 Chevrolet should be maintained to a high standard both to help improve visibility when driving and to maintain the beauty of the vehicle. If your windshield has become damaged or broken, replace it immediately. The process can be completed by almost anyone. Ask for assistance when removing the broken windshield and installing the replacement.

Tools Used: Screwdriver, Nylon cord, Sealant, Sharp blade, Replacement windshield

Install Windshield

Cover the hood on your 1940 Chevrolet and remove the rear-view wing mirrors. This will help prevent you damaging any of the body work of the classic car when you are replacing the windshield. Use a screwdriver to remove the mounting screws on the side mirror. Slide the mirror out of its bracket.

Remove the rubber seal around the windshield. Use a sharp blade to carefully cut away all the rubber seal and remove it from the vehicle.

Lift the windshield out of place from the inside of the vehicle. Be careful and have someone assist you with the removal from outside the car. Place the windshield in a safe place to prevent further damage.

Place a thin layer of windshield sealant around the edges of the new windshield. Attach the new gasket to the shield so that the heavy part of the gasket is at the bottom of the shield and the slit is at the side.

Attach a thin nylon cord around the windshield and move it into place on the vehicle. Have someone hold the windshield down on the vehicle to allow the sealant to set in place. Place the nylon cord along the edges inside the vehicle for extra support. Clean the windshield and the dashboard to prevent any glass or debris getting into the vents.
