1963 Chevrolet Impala Bucket Seats Installation Instructions

Replacing the seats in your 1963 Chevrolet Impala with bucket seats is pretty much the same procedure as replacing the seat on any other vehicle. You can pick up bucket seats for your vehicle by visiting your local scrap yard and getting seats from a larger-model Impala, or you can search the Internet and custom car catalogs for custom seats. The work should take you the best part of an hour to complete.

Tools Used: Socket wrench, Drill and bits, Bucket seats, Marker pen

Install Bucket Seats

Enter your vehicle. Locate the mounting bolts that fix in place the base of the seat you are looking to remove.

Use a socket wrench to remove the rear mounting bolts that hold the base of the seat in place. Proceed to remove the bolts from the front of the base. Lift the seat out of the Impala.

Lift the replacement bucket seat into the space left by the removed seat. Line up the bolt holes on the floor of the Impala with those on the base of the bucket seat.

Check to make sure that all of the holes line up correctly. If any extra holes need to be added, mark them out with a marker pen. Use a drill to make the holes within the floor.

Use a socket wrench to insert the bolts between the base of the bucket seat and the floor. Slide underneath your vehicle and attach a nut and lock washer to the bottom side of the bolts to secure the bucket seat firmly in place. Use a socket wrench and if necessary an extension fitting to torque the nuts to the bolts securely. Repeat the process on any of the other seats you wish to remove.

If you are replacing the rear bench seat in your Impala with bucket seats, you will first have to remove the upper and lo1wer mounting bolts attached to each seat in the bench with a socket wrench. Lift the bench seat from the vehicle. The best way to remove the seat is through the trunk.

Place the bucket seats into the back seating area of the Impala. Mark out the holes needed in the floor of the Impala to fix the bucket seats in place, using a marker. Use a drill to bore the holes needed in the rear floor of the Impala. Place the bucket seats into the rear of the Impala and secure them in place by attaching the mounting bolts in the same manner you installed the front seats.
