1940 Ford Sedan Window Glass Installation Instructions

The 1940 Ford sedan was the last of the original 1937 designed Ford models to contain a smaller V-8 engine. With all vehicles well over 50 years old, parts in the vehicle can become worn or damaged. These parts require regular care and replacement. Finding the parts for your 71-year-old sedan could be tricky, but there are a number of specialist dealers who can provide you with the window needed for your 1940 Ford sedan. You may need to have an auto-glass dealer create a custom window to fit your sedan.

Tools Used: Window, Screwdriver set, Wrench set, Work gloves, Regulator bolts

Instructions

Locate the screws that attach the door panel to the inside of the door. Remove the screws with a Phillips screwdriver and lift the door panel away from the door.

Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the bolts that connect the window regulator to the old window of your Ford sedan. As the vehicle is over 70 years old you should discard the bolts and replace them with new bolts. Lift the window from the door frame. Put on gloves before lifting out the window to ensure you do not cut your hands on broken glass.

Carefully lift a new window into the door frame. Lift the window regulator up to the windowpane. The window regulator is a metal component below the window frame that is shaped like a metallic cross with two holes on the top bar to which you attach the window. Align the holes on the regulator with those on the bottom of the glass pane.

Insert bolts in between the regulator and window with a wrench. Fix them both securely together in place.

Reattach the door panel by fixing it in place with the screws that you removed earlier.
