How to Replace Ignition Coil on 1982 Chevrolet Blazer

The ignition coil on a 1982 Chevrolet Blazer helps regulate the spark for the distributor. This coil can wear down as the engine turns, and eventually, it will cause problems with the amount of spark coming out of the distributor until the Blazer won't be able to run anymore. To fix the issue, the ignition coil needs to be replaced. This should take about 30 minutes or so to do, and it can be done with basic tools.

Tools Used: 1/4-inch ratchet and socket set, Needle-nose pliers, Replacement coil, Phillips head screwdriver

Replace Ignition Coil

Pop the hood. Take the air filter assembly off the engine by removing the wingnut and pulling the assembly off with your hands. Locate the distributor on the back of the engine, which has ignition wires running out of it. Unbolt the ignition coil cover from the top of the distributor with the 1/4-inch ratchet and socket.

Unscrew the ignition coil from the distributor cap with the Phillips head screwdriver. Lift the screws and the coil out of the distributor cap with the needle-nose pliers.

Install the replacement ignition coil in the distributor cap with the Phillips head screwdriver. Reinstall the ignition coil cover with the 1/4-inch ratchet and socket. Reinstall the air filter assembly with your hands.
