How to Replace Window Cranks on 1975 Chevrolet Camaro

The window crank handles on a 1975 Camaro lift the windows up and down manually. As the handle ages, it might become unable to grab the gears required to lift or lower the window. To fix this issue, you need to remove the window crank from the car and replace it with a new one. The job should take about an hour.

Tools Used: Window crank handle removal tool, Replacement window cranks, Replacement window crank clips

Replace Window Cranks

Open the Camaro's door. Align the window crank removal tool with the long portion of the window crank handle. Slide the tool behind the handle.

Push the tool around with your hands until you meet resistance from the clip. Push the tool until the clip pops out of the window crank. Slide the crank off of the door.

Push a replacement clip onto the slots on the replacement window crank until it clicks into place. Align the window crank in the position you want it, then push the crank onto the window gear with your hands until you hear it pop onto the gear.

Tips & Warnings

If you can't find a window crank handle removal tool, you can also use a hook tool. Just be careful, because removing the clip will be a little more difficult with the hook tool.
