How to Replace the Front Brakes on a 1985 Porsche 944

The front brakes in your 1985 Porsche 944 must be kept in the best possible condition to ensure your vehicle is able to come to the complete stop in the shortest time possible. Over time brakes become worn and damaged. You should look to repair and replace your brakes every time you travel around 3000 miles. You can pick up all the equipment you will need to replace your front brakes from your local auto store.

Tools Used: Car jack, Jack stands, Wrench set

Replace the Front Brakes

Place a carjack underneath your vehicle. Place the jack so that it is slightly closer to the front wheel which you are looking to carry out the work on. Raise the vehicle off the floor. Support the weight of the vehicle with the use of jack stands.

Use a lug wrench to remove the lug bolts attached to the wheel. Lift the wheel from the axle and place it in a safe area. Take care not to damage the wheel.

Remove the mounting bolts attached to the brake caliper and its bracket. Unhook the electrical wiring from the caliper and remove the caliper and its bracket from the vehicle. Pull the brake pads away from the wheel assembly. One of the pads will have a ABS sensor attached to it.

Completely clean the slides on the wheel assembly which had previously help the old brake pads in place. Attach new brake pads on to their sliders. Reconnect the brake caliper and fix it in place with the mounting bolts.

Lower the Porsche off the car jack. Take your 944 on to the secluded road and check to make sure your new brake pads now work correctly.
