Replacing a fuel filter on a 1989 mustang is moderately easy to change. Replace the fuel filter once every 30,000 miles or 24 months for better gas mileage and performance.
Tools Used: Floor jack, 2 Jack stands, Needlenose pliers, Replacement fuel filter, a pair of safety glasses
Replace the Fuel Filter
Chalk the front wheel with a piece of wood or something that will keep the car from rolling. Jack the back of the car up with a floor jack in the middle of axle. Place jack stands under the back axle to hold the car up. Get underneath the car and locate the fuel tank.
The fuel filter is located in front of gas tank. There are two retainer clips on the fuel filter. Take your fingers and push in on the sides of the clips and pull down with your needle nose pliers. The clips should come right off. Be careful, there is gas in the old fuel filter.
Insert the new fuel filter and installation is the reverse of removal. The new fuel filter should come with new retainer clips.
