How to Replace Your Turn Signal Relay in a Nissan Sentra

As your Nissan Sentra begins to age, it can start to have mechanical issues with various parts. For instance, if the turn signal starts blinking uncontrollably or it just quits working, there's a chance that the turn signal relay needs replacing. This process is simple enough that most anyone can do it and in a short amount of time.

STEP 1 - Use a flashlight to locate the relay panel underneath the steering column and near the center console. On some models of the Nissan Sentra, there may not be a panel cover. On these models, it's simply open underneath the steering column.

STEP 2 - Remove the relay panel cover with a screwdriver, if you have a cover. On most models, you'll need to use a Phillips head screwdriver to unfasten the panel. Be sure you put the screws in a safe place, so you don't lose them.

STEP 3 - Look on the underside of the panel cover to find the location of the turn signal relay in the Nissan Sentra. There should be a diagram there, which details the position of all the relays and fuses.

STEP 4 - Take out the old turn signal relay and replace it with the new one. Be sure you perform both removal and installation carefully, as you can damage the new relay or the parts near it, if you're too forceful.

STEP 5 - Check the turn signal on the Nissan Sentra to verify the replacement fixed the problem. If it still doesn't work, verify that you seated the relay properly. Should it work correctly, put the relay panel cover back in place and dispose of the old turn signal relay.

TIPS: In the 1.6L Sentra, Nissan discountined the original flasher relay and the replacement the manufacturer recommends doesn't always fit the original mounting without minor modifications required.
