1975 Chevrolet Blazer Edelbrock Manifold Installation Instructions

Detroit-based Chevrolet released the K5 Blazer to consumers for the 1969 model year. This full-size truck was a sport utility vehicle that shared a chassis and many similar body features with the Chevrolet C/K pickup. In 1975, the Chevrolet Blazer came standard with a 250 cubic-inch six-cylinder powerhouse. Consumers could upgrade to a larger six-cylinder or a variety of larger displacement V-8 motors, including a diesel-powered 6.2-liter. Upgrading to an Edelbrock intake manifold will strengthen the air flow throughout the engine.

Tools Used: Edelbrock intake manifold and gasket kit, Wrench set, Torque wrench, Plastic scraper, Linen cloth

Install Edelbrock Manifold

Removal

Open the hood of your Blazer and unscrew the bolt that holds the negative connection to the battery. Stopping the electrical flow to the engine's equipment will ensure a safe installation.

Place an empty container below the drain plug of the engine's radiator. Twist off the radiator filler cap to allow the coolant to drain more easily. Remove the drain plug and allow all of the coolant to empty into the container. Replace the drain plug when you are finished.

Loosen the wingnut that holds the air filter housing unit together. Remove this housing unit to access the intake manifold and attached parts below.

Disconnect all hoses, wiring and cables that attach to the intake manifold of the engine. Tag all of these connections so that there is no confusion when you install the new intake manifold and gasket.

Remove the distributor cap to access the rotor and distributor. Mark the positioning of the rotor with a marker before you remove the distributor. Unfasten the distributor clamp that holds the unit down and remove distributor.

Unscrew the bolts that hold the intake manifold to the engine block. Remove the intake manifold and dispose of it. Remove the heater hose fittings from the old intake manifold for use with the new intake manifold. Pry the intake manifold gasket from the engine block with a screwdriver.

Remove any excess build-up of engine coolant or other grime with the plastic scraper. Wipe any remaining debris off the engine block with a mildly moist cloth.

Installation

Coat the top and bottom of the new intake manifold gasket with a gasket sealer. Position the gasket so that the holes align with the cylinder flanges.

Attach the heater hose fittings to your new Edelbrock intake manifold. Position the new manifold to align perfectly with the newly-installed manifold gasket. Torque the bolts of the intake manifold to 25 foot-pounds of pressure.

Reattach the distributor and fasten it into place with the distributor clamp. Reconnect all of the electrical wiring and replace the distributor cap.

Connect all of the hoses and cables that were disconnected in order to remove the intake manifold. Reattach the air filter housing unit and tighten the wingnut with your hand.

Pour the engine coolant back into the radiator and replace the filler cap. Connect the negative cable to the engine's battery.
