1999 Mazda Protege ES L4-1839cc 1.8L DOHC
TIMING BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [FP]
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the camshaft position sensor and crankshaft position sensor.
3. Remove the spark plug.
4. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
5. Install in the reverse order of removal.
6. Inspect the air gap.
7. Adjust the drive belt tension or deflection.
8. Start the engine and:
1. Inspect the pulleys and drive belt for runout and contact.
2. Inspect the ignition timing.
Crankshaft Pulley Removal Note
Hold the crankshaft using the Special Service Tool (SST) .
Cylinder Head Cover Removal Note
Loosen the cylinder head cover bolts a few turns in the order shown. Download File PDF
