The ignition switch on a 1992 Honda Accord is responsible for triggering the starting process for the engine. Over time and after thousands of starts, the internal components in the ignition switch can break down until eventually the ignition switch can't do its job anymore. To fix the problem, you have to replace the switch with a new one. This is not a difficult process, but it can take an hour or so to do, depending on your level of experience.
Step 1 - Locate the Honda emblem in the center of the steering wheel. Remove the emblem using the flat-head screwdriver. Unbolt the center bolt on the steering wheel using the 1/2-inch ratchet and socket. Rock the steering wheel back and forth to remove it from the steering column.
Step 2 - Remove the steering column covers using the Phillips-head screwdriver. Disconnect the electrical connections to the switch with your hands. Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the "0" position. Unscrew the switch from the column using the Phillips-head screwdriver and take it out.
Align the replacement switch in the housing and then install it using the Phillips-head screwdriver. Reconnect the wiring to the switch by hand. Reinstall the steering column cover using the Phillips-head screwdriver and the steering wheel using the 1/2-inch ratchet and socket.
