How to Replace an Ignition Switch on a 1983 Chevrolet C10

Tools Used: Phillips Head Screwdriver, 3/8-inch ratchet and Socket Set, 1/4-inch ratchet and Socket Set, Replacement Ignition Switch

Replace Switch

Remove the cover underneath the steering column, using the Phillips-head screwdriver. Unbolt the steering column from the dashboard with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Lower the column, so you can access the switch.

Make sure the ignition switch is in the "lock" position, and if it isn't, put the key in the ignition and put it in the correct position. Unbolt the switch from the steering column with the 1/4-inch ratchet and socket. Lift the switch away from the column.

Also, make sure the replacement switch is in the "lock" position. Install the switch in the column, using the 1/4-inch ratchet and socket. Bolt the steering column back up to the dashboard, using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Reinstall the lower steering column cover with the Phillips-head screwdriver.
