How to Replace the Side Mirror on a 1989 Mazda MPV

The 1989 Mazda MPV has its mirrors bolted to the door panel with three bolts. The bolts are covered by part of the door panel. On some of the models, the upper corner of the door panel that covers the bolts is part of the door panel; on other models, it is a separate piece. In all cases, the door panel must be removed to access the mirror's electrical connector.

Tools Used: Phillips screwdriver, Common screwdriver, ¼-inch drive ratchet, Set of ¼-inch drive sockets

Replace Side Mirror

Remove the Phillips screws located in the armrest of the door panel. Remove any screws present around the edges of the door panel. Insert the common screwdriver between the door panel and the door. Pry out all the trim fasteners that secure the door panel to the door.

Lift the door panel up slightly and pull it away from the door (just enough to disconnect the electrical connectors). Disconnect the electrical connector attached to the mirror.

Remove the three nuts that secure the mirror to the door, while holding the mirror from the other side, so that it does not fall while the nuts are removed.

Install the mirror in reverse order of the removal procedure.
