How to Put Refrigerant in a 2000 Ford Taurus

The 2000 Ford Taurus uses a standard air conditioning system. The condenser and coolant lines run along the top of the engine along the fender. The system uses a high-pressure thinner tube and a low-pressure larger tube to route the coolant. Both tubes have a port that appears to look like a metal valve stem. The low-pressure port is located on the passenger side near the firewall and has a black cap on the port. Refilling the system takes only a few minutes.

Step 1 - Remove the cap for the low-pressure port. The cap is black and positioned along the back of the firewall. Unscrew the cap, and set it to the side.

Step 2 - Attach the hose from the recharge kit to the port. The hose snaps into place by applying manual pressure.

Step 3 - Start the vehicle, and turn on the air conditioner to maximum cool.

Step 4 - Press the button on the recharge canister. Release the button periodically to monitor the pressure level. Do not exceed the maximum pressure indicated on the canister.

Remove the hose by lifting up on the edges. The connection will pop off. Replace the black cap.

THINGS YOU'LL NEED: R-134a recharge kit with gauge

WARNINGS: Do not overfill the system. Too much fluid will bog down the condenser and pump, causing excessive wear on the system, and your AC will not blow cold air.
