When there is something wrong with your Toyota Camry's various vehicle sensors, your "check-engine" light will come on. This doesn't always mean that there is a problem with the engine. The problem could be with your emissions system or fuel system. To be sure, you'll need to diagnose the problem using a diagnostic scan tool. Then, once you've determined the problem and fixed it, you need to shut off the light on the dash.
Step 1 - Open the fuse panel under the steering column in the driver's side footwell by pulling down on the fuse-panel cover with your fingers.
Step 2 - Plug the OBD (onboard diagnostic) scan tool plug into the open access port to the left of the main fuse panel. The access port is rectangular in shape and will accept the OBD plug.
Step 3 - Turn on the ignition (but don't start the engine) and power up the OBD scan tool.
Wait for the OBD scan tool display to read "OK." This indicates that the tool has retrieved the engine fault codes. Then, press the "Clear" button on the front of your scan tool. This will clear all engine fault codes and turn off your check-engine light.
