How to Remove Salt Stains From a Car Windshield

Salt stains can quickly collect on car windshields during cold, snowy weather. Salt is spread on roads to help prevent cars from slipping on patches of ice and layers of snow. While salt is necessary to keep drivers safe during dangerous winter weather, it also can be an annoyance when it leaves a white and gray film on car exteriors, particularly windshields. With a few common household items, you can remove these stains and improve windshield visibility.

STEP 1 - Fill a spray bottle with a 50-50 solution of water and white vinegar. Diluting the vinegar will make it safe for your car exterior yet still strong enough to dissolve the salt stains.

STEP 2 - Mist a light layer of the solution onto the windshield.

STEP 3 - Wipe the windshield clean with paper towels. You may need to repeat this procedure several times if you have heavy salt stain buildup.

TIPS: For a winter windshield washer fluid that is also highly effective for dissolving salt stains on your windshield, fill your windshield washer fluid canister with a 50-50 mix of water and white vinegar.
