The 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was released with split-folding rear seats. This increased the trunk space and created a more convenient storage space for large objects. The seat was designed so that either the whole seat can be folded down, or only half to leave space for a rear passenger. Over the years, the weight of the back seat may have caused it to droop. This makes it stick, and difficult to fold. Lift up on it slightly and it will fold normally.
The Whole Seat
Park the vehicle and set the parking brake.
Pull up on the levers at both ends of the seat. The levers need to be lifted at the same time.
Pull the seat forward and lower it down.
Partial Seat
Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.
Lift the lever on the end of the seat to fold.
Push the button on the rear of the back seat, located in the center. This will detach the two halves of the seat.
Pull forward on the seat back and lower it down.
