Rust can be considered a disease in a vehicle. If your 1985 Toyota pickup truck shows signs of rust formation along its frame, you should remove the rust immediately. With the right supplies and tools, you can remove the rust and have your Toyota looking like new again.
Tools Used: Safety goggles, Dust mask, Rubber gloves, Long sleeves, Pants, Closed-in shoes, Hand-sander, Wire brush, Phosphoric acid gel (naval jelly), Soft cloths, Anticorrosive primer, Sponge paintbrush
Repair Rusted Frame
Put your safety gear on. Plug in the sander.
Remove as much rust from the frame surface as possible with the sander. Rub the sander against the rust in a circular motion and with the sander on the low setting. Scrape the area with a wire brush.
Dab a small amount of naval jelly onto a cloth and rub it on the rusted surface. Let the jelly sit for roughly 10 minutes. Wipe it off with a dry cloth.
Apply the corrosive primer to the freshly rust-free areas. Use the sponge paintbrush for a smooth application. Allow 24 to 48 hours for the primer to dry completely.
