How to Disable a Jeep Liberty Seatbelt Alarm

The Jeep Liberty is equipped with a seatbelt alarm. Jeep calls this feature the "Enhanced Seatbelt Use Reminder System." When you drive your Jeep without the seatbelt buckled, the system beeps endlessly. Although Jeep does not advise you to disable your seatbelt alarm, you can do it--this procedure is outlined in the Liberty's owner's manual.

Step 1 - Sit in your Liberty. Close the door behind you. Place your key into the ignition, but to not turn it. Leave the key in "Off" mode.

Step 2 - Buckle your seatbelt. Turn the key two clicks to the right. This turns the ignition on but does not crank the engine.

Step 3 - Watch your instrument cluster. There is a small light in the corner. It is an emblem of a man wearing his seatbelt. Wait for the light to turn off. It should take 30 to 60 seconds.

Step 4 - Unbuckle the seatbelt. Buckle the seatbelt. Unbuckle the seatbelt. Buckle the seatbelt. Unbuckle the seatbelt, and then buckle it again. Do this quickly (within 10 seconds).

Turn the key off. You'll hear a chime. The seatbelt alarm is deactivated.

TIPS: In the event that you decide to re-enable the alarm, perform the procedure again. When the alarm is turned off, performing the above procedure enables the alarm.
