How to Remove a Stock Stereo From a 2006 Chevy

The stereo in a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado has a few advantages. For one, they are very easy to remove, thanks to a simple bolt-in system. Taking out the stock stereo can take about five minutes to do, but if you do this frequently, you should be able to do it in under a minute. Better yet, it doesn't require any special tools, other than a 1/4-inch ratchet and the keys to the ignition.

Step 1 - Set the parking brake with your left foot. Then place your right foot on the brake and place the key in the ignition. Turn the key to the "on" position and shift the shift lever into its lowest position, then tilt the steering column down.

Step 2 - Grab the perimeter of the dash bezel that goes around the gauge cluster and radio and pull it off. This is just clipped in place, so a gentle tug will release the clips. Once the bezel is off, put the car back in park and turn the key off.

Unbolt the stereo from the dashboard using the 1/4-inch ratchet and socket. Slide the deck out with your hands, then reach around to the back of the stereo and unplug the antenna lead and wiring harness.
