How to Install the Distributor on a 1989 Chevrolet C2500 pickup

Installing the distributor on your 1989 Chevrolet C2500 pickup is a simple and short task, but it involves exact precision. If you do not place the distributor in the exact correct position in the engine, it may not function properly. The only tool needed to install the distributor is a socket wrench. It should take you no more than 15 minutes to install a new distributor in the engine of your Chevrolet C2500.

Tools Used: Socket wrench

Install Distributor

Open the hood of your truck and remove the number one cylinder spark plug at the bottom right corner of the engine.

Rotate the engine using a socket wrench on the single large bolt at the front of the crankshaft pulley. Place your index finger near the number one spark plug hole and turn the crankshaft until the piston your finger is on reaches its topmost position. Once the position is at the correct position, reinstall the spark plug.

Line up the indent hole in the distributor driven gear with the white line on the lower part of the shaft housing. Line up the oil pump drive shaft with the mating drive tab of the distributor. Once everything is properly aligned, place the distributor into the engine.

Install the cap and secure its mounting bolts with the socket wrench. Install the bolt and clamp to secure the distributor and tighten the bolt to 27 Nm. Connect all of the electrical connections and spark plug wires to the distributor.
