How to Change an Oil Filter on a Colorado

After enjoying your Chevy Colorado truck for 3,000 miles you should make sure to change the oil in it to maintain the life of the truck engine. Taking your Chevy Colorado truck to get an oil change at a shop will cost you. The Chevy Colorado doesn't have any special tools required to change the oil beside a 14 mm wrench to remove the oil drain plug. You can change the oil filter with your own hands.

Step 1 - Park your Chevy Colorado on a level spot. Crawl under your driver's side of the engine and locate the oil drain plug on that side of the base of the engine block. Unscrew it with the 14 mm wrench and allow all the oil to drain into the oil drain pan. Screw the oil plug back in tightly.

Step 2 - Slide over to the front of the engine block on the passenger side of your Chevy Colorado. Unscrew the oil filter counterclockwise. Keep the oil filter upright while you remove it so you don't spill any oil on yourself or the truck engine.

Step 3 - Rub oil around the rubber gasket on the new oil filter. Screw the new oil filter on by hand. Once it gets tight, turn it one more complete turn to seal the rubber gasket to the engine.

Get out from under the truck. Pop the hood, open the oil lid and fill it with 6 quarts of 5W-30 oil.

THINGS YOU'LL NEED: 14 mm wrench, Oil drain pan, 6 quarts 5W-30 oil, Oil filter
