How to Get More Power Out of a V6 Engine

You can increase the power of your V-6 engine by installing a performance module. Aftermarket companies offer performance modules for almost any vehicle. Purchase them online or at your local auto parts store. You will need to verify the make, model, year and engine size to ensure the correct module is purchased. They plug directly into the electronic control unit (ECU) of the vehicle and can be installed in less than 15 minutes.

Step 1 - Open the hood of your vehicle.

Step 2 - Remove the negative battery cable from the battery by loosening the nut with a wrench and pulling the cable from the battery post.

Step 3 - Locate the ECU of the vehicle. Most ECUs are mounted on the firewall. They have a large wiring harness connected to them. If you are unable to locate the ECU, find a wiring harness and trace it until you can determine the location of the ECU.

Step 4 - Unplug the stock wiring harness from the ECU by pressing the release tabs on each side of the harness and pulling it toward you.

Step 5 - Plug the male end of the performance module into the ECU.

Step 6 - Plug the stock wiring harness into the opposite side of the performance module.

Reconnect the battery cable and tighten the nut with a wrench. Lower the hood.
