Cadillac CTS owners who wish to connect external car audio devices, such as Mp3 players and satellite radio receivers, will need to first establish an auxiliary input to the factory stereo unit. The connections need to be made to the back of the stock stereo deck via FM modulator. You can choose to have the FM modulator installed by a professional car audio technician, or you can buy the necessary adapter and install the AUX input yourself.
Step 1 - Raise the Cadillac's hood to access the battery connections. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery to prevent shorting the CTS' electrical system during the AUX port installation. Loosen the bolt on the negative cable with a wrench, and remove the cable from the battery terminal. Set the cable aside, and move to the inside of the vehicle.
Step 2 - Pull the ashtray from the dashboard below the stereo assembly and climate controls. Remove the bolt screw at the back of the ashtray's slot with a 7 mm socket and drive.
Step 3 - Remove the two panels at the upper and lower edges of the stereo dock with a flat screwdriver or trim panel removal tool. Remove the two screws at either side of the stock stereo bracket with a 10 mm socket and drive. Slide the stereo from the dock, and disconnect the stereo wiring connectors from the back of the unit.
Step 4 - Open the glove compartment. Place the FM modulator inside the compartment, and feed the two wiring connectors through the opening on the left side of the storage space into the adjacent stereo mounting dock.
Step 5 - Connect the Cadillac's stereo wiring connectors to the wiring harness adapter leads. Plug the two FM modulator connectors into the available AUX input leads of the adapter. See the adapter's manual or follow the color code on the adapter's leads for connection locations.
Step 6 - Plug the wiring harness adapter lead connectors into the corresponding outlets on the rear panel of the factory stereo. Slide the head unit back into the stereo dock, and replace the two bolt screws on either side of the stereo bracket. Place the two trim panels against the dashboard at the top and bottom edge of the stereo assembly. Press firmly on the panels to snap them back into place.
Step 7 - Replace the bolt screw at the back of the ashtray opening, and return the ashtray to its slot. Move back to the CTS' engine compartment.
Replace the negative battery cable clamp onto the negative battery terminal. Tighten the cable's bolt with the wrench, and close the hood.
