How to Change the Headlamp on a 1983 Honda Goldwing

The 1983 Honda Goldwing was the last production model to be dubbed the GL1100, which began in 1980. Although the Honda Goldwings became ever heavier and more complicated over the years, they are also relatively simple to maintain. For things such as changing a headlamp, Honda made sure that only a screwdriver was needed for this task. This design made a routine headlamp-change within the realm of virtually any rider.

Tools Used: Phillips Screwdriver

Change Headlamp

Park your Goldwing on a level surface, and remove the keys from the ignition.

Use a screwdriver to remove the two recessed screws inside of the headlamp trim ring.

Pull the trim ring off once the screws have been removed.

Pull off the glass headlamp globe that goes over the headlamp bulb. The globe is held on by spring metal clips, and once the trim ring has been removed, the globe will just pull off.

Grasp the bulb socket in one hand and the bulb in the either. Pull the bulb directly out while holding the socket firmly, and the bulb will release and pull away from the socket.

Install a new bulb by pushing it into the socket, snap the glass globe back into place, then reattach the trim ring with the attachment screws.
