If you've ever carried a container of gasoline in your vehicle, you've undoubtedly been concerned with the possibility of, or perhaps have experienced, a spill onto your carpets or upholstery. A gasoline spill in your car's interior must be dealt with promptly. Aside from the obvious hazards of having flammable liquid soaking into your car's upholstery, the smell also poses an issue. The smell of gasoline is unpleasant, overwhelming and can be hazardous to your health.
Step 1 - Apply an absorbent substance such as baking soda or cornstarch to the stain, if it is still wet.
Step 2 - Let the absorbent substance sit for 10 to 15 minutes before vacuuming the area.
Step 3 - Apply a dry-cleaning solvent or a mixture of white vinegar and hot water to the stain.
Step 4 - Use a clean, white cloth to blot the area until dry.
Step 5 - Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the stain is gone.
Air out your car or apply a fabric fresher spray to rid your vehicle of any remaining odor, if necessary.
TIPS: Use precautions to avoid igniting the spilled gasoline, especially when operating the vacuum.
