1987 BMW 325 Manually Reset Warning Lights

Various types of warning lights illuminate on the instrument panel of your 1987 BMW 325 to alert you of potential problems or servicing needs of your vehicle. The on-board diagnostic computer receives trouble codes from sensors positioned throughout the BMW. Once you have had the problem looked at and repaired by a qualified mechanic, you can then manually reset and turn off the warning lights on your BMW 325. If you try to reset the light before fixing the problem, the light will just turn back on again after a while.

Tools Used: OBD scan tool, Ignition key

Manually Reset Warning Lights

Find the fuse panel cover on the driver's-side dashboard. Remove the cover by pulling down from the top with your fingers.

Find a port inside the fuse panel that is the same size and shape as the connector end of the OBD scan tool. Plug the tool into that port carefully, taking care not to force it into place. If you force it, some pins may bend.

Put the key into the ignition and turn the vehicle to the "II" position, but don't start the engine. Observe the OBD scan tool and wait for the light on it to stop flashing. Examine the instrument panel of the vehicle. The warning light should have turned off.
