How to Replace the Serpentine Belt in a Chrysler Town & Country

A drive belt is called a serpentine belt when it winds through the engine area to power multiple accessories and fits around multiple pulleys under the hood. The Chrysler Town and Country has different drive belt setups for different engine sizes. The drive belt setups for a Chrysler Town and Country may also vary by model year. Check your owner's documentation for specific information on your model year and engine type.

Step 1 - Open the hood and find the belt tensioner pulley. This pulley has a bolt in its center that will allow you to release tension on the belt. You'll see the belt running around the tensioner pulley as well as the crankshaft and alternator.

Step 2 - Look at how the belt is routed around various pulleys. Make a drawing for yourself, with detail, so that you know how to install the new belt. The manufacturer may provide a belt routing decal under the hood, but if not, your sketch will be important.

Step 3 - Use a wrench to rotate the belt tensioner pulley bolt and slide the old belt off of the tensioner pulley. Use your own belt routing diagram to install the new belt.

Step 4 - Make sure your new serpentine belt is correctly seated on all pulleys.

Step 5 - Replace tension on the belt using your wrench on the tensioner pulley bolt.

Run the engine and check for flapping, noises or other signals that there is a problem with belt installation.

TIPS: The manufacturer recommends checking the belts every 15,000 miles or 12 months for replacement due to normal wear.
