1989 Chevrolet Blazer Troubleshooting Headlights

The Chevrolet Blazer, which was first introduced in 1969, was manufactured until 1995, when it was replaced by the Chevrolet Tahoe. Troubleshooting the headlights on a 1989 Blazer is a simple process. The three main issues to check are the headlight connections, the headlight bulbs and the headlight fuses.

Tools Used: Phillips screwdriver, Replacement 9006-type bulb, Replacement 10A fuse

Troubleshooting Headlights

Turn off the Blazer's engine and remove the two screws at the top of the radiator support. Pull the headlight lens out of the vehicle. Tug on the electrical connector. If it is loose, plug it in. If the headlights on your Blazer are still not working, you need to install a new bulb.

Unplug the electrical connector. Rotate the bulb counterclockwise to remove it from the assembly. Place a new bulb in the assembly and rotate it clockwise to secure it.

Plug in the electrical connector and place the lens back on the headlight. Tighten the two screws. If the headlights on your Blazer are still not working, you need to install a new fuse.

Locate the fuse block in the instrument panel on the driver's side. Remove the cover from the fuse block and locate the fuse labeled "HEAD LPS." If the fuse is broken, it will need to be replaced.

Check the metal inside of the fuse. If it is no longer in one piece, grasp it with your index finger and thumb to remove it. Replace it with an identical fuse. Close the fuse block.
