The airbags in a Chevy Suburban are designed to cushion the driver and the passenger in the event of a front-end collision. These airbags inflate within milliseconds of when the vehicle's computer senses a severe crash. Many Suburbans come equipped with key-switch that allows the passenger airbag to be selectively disabled, but this switch does not disable the driver's side airbag. Removing the airbag system fuse is a universal solution that disables all of the airbags in the vehicle.
Step 1 - Turn off the engine and place the Suburban's transmission in park. Apply the emergency brake and open the hood.
Step 2 - Locate the engine bay fuse block. It is mounted on the right side of the engine compartment, next to the driver's side fender.
Step 3 - Remove the cover from the fuse block. Read the diagram on the underside of the cover to determine the airbag fuse location within the fuse block.
Step 4 - Remove the airbag fuse from the fuse block.
Turn on the ignition and verify that the airbag warning lamp is illuminated. This lamp signifies that the airbag system is disabled.
