How to Put Water in Radiator on 1988 Nissan Sentra

Nissan recommends using Nissan Long Life Anti-freeze in the radiator of your 1988 Nissan Sentra. Adding water only can result in overheating or freezing in extreme temperatures. If you add water to your radiator, blend it with anti-freeze to protect the engine components. Select distilled water to prevent any damage or corrosion to the aluminum in the radiator.

Tools Used: Nissan Long Life Anti-freeze, Distilled water, Large container

Put Water in Radiator

Mix one gallon of anti-freeze with one gallon of water in a large container.

Raise the hood of the Sentra. Make sure the engine is completely cool.

Turn the radiator cap slightly counterclockwise. If the cap hisses, wait a few minutes before you remove it. Press down on the radiator cap and turn it counterclockwise to remove it from the radiator.

Pour the water blend into the radiator until the level in the radiator is full, or level with the bottom of the filler neck of the radiator.

Replace the radiator cap. Turn it clockwise until it is completely secure. Close the hood.

Tips & Warnings

If you dispose of any leftover anti-freeze, be sure to recycle it or otherwise dispose of it properly. It has elements that are toxic to many animals.
