How Do I Install a Subwoofer With the Mach 460 System?

The Mach 460 system is a premium audio system that comes installed in many Ford vehicles. Because it is a proprietary system, you cannot just hook up your own aftermarket head unit, amp, subwoofer or speaker and expect it to work seamlessly with the rest of the system. However, if you would like to install a subwoofer in your vehicle and keep your Mach 460 system, you can use a line output converter to convert the signal to one that can be used by your aftermarket subwoofer.

Step 1 - Turn off the engine and open the hood. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery terminal.

Step 2 - Go to your trunk and fold down your back seats.

Step 3 - Lie down on your back in your trunk and look up at your Mach 460 amp where you folded down your rear seats.

Step 4 - Locate the gray Mach data cable.

Step 5 - Splice the two black wires with white stripes and two black wires with green stripes with your line out converter. All of the wires will be color-coded. The wire with the additional white stripe is the negative wire of each of the two sets.

Step 6 - Use a soldering iron to join your splices. Wrap each of your connections with electrical tape.

Step 7 - Run a 4-gauge power wire from the positive terminal of your battery to the location of your subwoofer. You can run the wire from the engine to the cabin through the factory grommet on the driver's side. You can hide this wire through your center console or under the carpeting.

Step 8 - Connect your subwoofer to the 4-gauge wiring.

Step 9 - Connect your subwoofer to the outputs of the line output converter.

Step 10 - Connect the negative terminal of your battery.

Turn on your engine and audio system. Ensure that your subwoofer is functioning properly.

THINGS YOU'LL NEED: Line out converter, Wire cutters, Soldering iron, Electrical tape, Subwoofer, 4 gauge electrical wire
