How to Change a Transmission Filter on a Voyager

The Plymouth Voyager is a full-size minivan with a six-cylinder engine. The transmission filter sits on the side of the transmission mounted to the transmission fluid pump. You should change the transmission fluid during this process as well. According to the owner's manual, you must change the transmission fluid and filter every 10,000 to 15,000 miles. You will need a set basic mechanic's tools and knowledge of the van to complete this task.

Step 1 - Place the floor jack behind the front passenger-side tire at the marked lift point. Raise the frame off the ground using the jack, and lower it onto a jack stand.

Step 2 - Place the drain pan under the drain nut on the bottom of the transmission. Remove the drain nut using the ratchet set, and drain the fluid into the drain pan.

Step 3 - Replace and tighten the drain nut. Turn the transmission filter counterclockwise until it comes off the pump. Place the new filter onto the pump, and turn it clockwise until snug.

Step 4 - Remove the drain pan from under the van. Raise the frame off the jack stand, and lower it to the ground.
